[ register ]

Have you ever taken a trip and gone through a town and paid no attention to it? Possibly you have gone through this town countless times and never stopped or had lunch or taken in the scene. Milford Pennsylvania may be one such town. It is the county seat of Pikes County Pennsylvania with a population of around 1,200. The Trips Committee of the Old Guard want to take you there and discover its past. The town may surprise you.

Milford Pennsylvania was founded in the 1700s and became a popular summer retreat in the 19th century for New York families escaping the heat of New York City. Reportedly it also was a haven for the French who were deposed by the exile of Napoleon Bonaparte. It is located near the banks of the Delaware River across from New Jersey and close to the New York border. Grey Towers in Milford was the summer home of Gifford Pinchot, twice the Governor of Pennsylvania and the founder of the US Forest Service under President Theodore Roosevelt.
